This is the big show in the area with over 600 artists lined over an eight block area on the street, in a park and around a shopping center parking lot. Set-up ranges the gamut here depending on where your space is on the street, in the park or the shopping center. We like it better on the street because we think there is more traffic on the street and sales for us have been better on the street. Set-up and break down are very easy for us, we are able to park just across the street for unloading and packing up. This is our fifth time for doing this very consistent but usually slightly below average sales wise show for us. It’s a local show for us and expenses are low so we continue to return here. This is typically a very hot show weather wise, the dates are always the weekend following Easter. This year the show was very early in the month and the weather was nice Friday and Sunday and rained off and on all day Saturday.
The quality of art here ranges from very low crafty items (65%) to high end painting, sculpture and jewelry (35%). Friday the only thing that sells here is low end crafty items. Saturday it rained off and on most of the day so most had reported sales very slow. Sunday the weather was absolutely the best art show day you could ask for and the crowds responded enthusiastically. I’ve never seen it that crowded here. We sold 5 pieces this weekend with an average ticket of just under $2000.00. This was our best year here, we doubled what we usually do here. I spoke with two photographers, one had an average show, the other was slightly below average. Two painters both had close to average shows. Whimsical pottery was way down from last year but will return, whimsical, low end jewelry had a good show helped by wholesale buyers. There is one artist here that every year reports sales ranging in the 20,000.00-25,000.00 range and this year was very happy also.
This is a show where low end work tends to sell best but there are a few high end buyers walking around. If you do high end work be prepared to do a lot of talking and having sales few and far between.
This is a very well run, well organized show with lots of friendly staff. Next years show is later in the month and that usually means very hot weather but most I spoke with, including us, said they would return.
