For the past few years this was an Amy Amdur art show and now has been taken over and run by Chicago Events. Set-up was either Friday night after 6:30 pm or early Saturday Morning. Booths were down one long street and one side street. Our booth was on the side street, which I was not happy with but a jeweler that had done the show for the past 4 years said this is where her booth usually is and she usually does well here. There was room for storage behind some booths while others had none. Also depending on where your booth was there was a nice cool breeze coming off Lake Michigan while others with no breeze sweltered in the heat of the asphalt.
Sales for us were very disappointing, our first zero show for the year. I had heard this was such a high end area with large, expensive homes but very few high end buyers showed up. I spoke with two painters selling high end work that also had zero shows. I spoke with two metal sculptors selling medium to high end work that both moved some good size pieces. One said it was an above average show, the other said it was about 50% of an average show. Both would try again. Low to medium priced works sold best here. The jeweler selling pieces in the $30.00-$150.00 range said this year was slightly down from previous years but was still an average show sales wise. A jeweler with high end work did not have a good show.
A batik artist selling pieces in the $200.00-$400.00 range had a good show.
This was a well attended show in a really nice area with lots of shops and restaurants. I really enjoyed doing this show, it’s a shame we didn’t do better, we won’t be back to try again unless our phone starts ringing with orders from people that saw us there. I passed out hundreds of cards to people that loved our work, I just couldn’t close on any sales.
Break-down was typical for a street fair. Bring a good dolly or be prepared to wait to pull along side your booth. Staff and volunteers were very friendly and organized.
