Setup for the show is all day Friday, it was well organized and spaces were all clearly marked. Depending on where your booth was you could either park right next to your space or, like us, have to dolly quite a bit across a grass field. Damage to the park from Hurricane Wilma had forced some booths to moved around and onto the outfield area of a baseball field. I have to admit I was quite worried to be on the field with a sign pointing towards our area that said “additional artists this way.” Never a good sign!
Actually it all worked out well for us, we had good traffic on the field and other than the long dolly, I was very pleased with our spot. One artist that originally was on the field but requested and got a different spot somewhere else in the show was heard to comment later, “I should have stayed on the field”
Saturday was one of those magical art show days where the crowds were full of enthusiastic patrons buying artwork and signing up for newsletters. There was a definite energy there, you don’t feel at too many shows. We sold three large pieces and one small piece to have an above average show on the first day. I spoke with several artists in different mediums that reported varying degrees of success.
Sunday was slow for us but others had success around us. All in all it was a well above average show for us and we hope to be back next year. I spoke with 4 painters, one reported an above average show, one an average show, one a below average show and one painter in her first year of doing shows had a zero show. Leather reported an average show, two jewelers both reported above average sales, a wood sculptor and a clay artist both reported below average sales. I spoke with two photographers, one reporting an average show but had said he had done so well here last year that he had hoped for more of the same this year. The other reported a slightly below average sales totals.
Naples Invitational is staffed 100% by volunteers and every dime they collect goes to help the Eden Foundation which helps autistic children. We get asked to donate pieces for a lot different causes, I wish I had known what a great staff and show they put on here, I would have more prepared to donate more.
Breakdown went a bit smoother, we went out to dinner and waited for the parking lot to clear out a bit so we didn’t have to dolly quite so far. All in all this was a great show to do, I would recommend this show to anyone selling high end artwork.
