2004 Under The Oaks Art Show
March 12-14, Vero Beach, 53rd Annual Under The Oaks Art Show. Contact: Vero Beach Art Club, 3001 Riverside Park Drive, Vero Beach, Fl. 32963, 772-231-0303 web: www.verobeachartclub.org
This is the show that all the artists I've spoken with love to do. The absolute easiest set-up/break-down in art show history, above average sales, $13,8000.00 in awards, artist's dinner and breakfast, very well organized, high quality of art, lots of space between and behind booths and royal treatment all weekend long. You can tell this art show is run by artists!
This is a three day show in Riverside Park in the shade of 100 year old oak trees. Set-up is Thursday and the show is laid out so that every artist can park directly behind their booth and not just for unloading and loading. You can park there all weekend long!
Check-in and set-up are very organized and very well run. The staff of volunteers are friendly and ready to answer questions. If you don't like your spot, no problem, they hold several spots open around the show for you to choose from. I told you this is a very artist friendly show!
Friday the weather was perfect and crowds were out enjoying the show. Most of the veteran artists told us Friday was usually slow and the buyers would be here on the weekend. Most told us this is usually an above average show for them sales wise. We sold three large pieces on Friday and were very happy. Others I spoke with ran the gamut from good to slow.
Saturday and Sunday were also great weather wise and the crowds again came out. A jeweler said he'd been doing the show for 7-8 years and this was usually an above average show for him. This year he did about the same as last year and was very happy with his totals. A first year sculptor said this was a slightly below average show for him but would return to try again. A first year photographer said this was an above average show for him and he would definitely be back. A glass sculptor said this was a slightly below average show for him and he would return.
Saturday and Sunday were a little slow for us, one piece each day but we still ended up with an above average show and we will definitely be back next year. We came so close 3-4 times each day to closing sales but it just didn't happen. I also think we'll get several after show sales from this show.
The crowds were very enthusiastic about art and loved coming to this show.
There's good food at fairly reasonably prices and a great art show setting in the park.
