This is one of the shows we really look forward to every year, with very easy setup and breakdown, nice crowds, a beautiful park setting and usually good sales. The spaces are 12 feet wide at a minimum, some wider so most artists can hang work on both outside walls, and there's no extra charge for that! More shows should be like this!
This is our fourth time for doing Under the Oaks and it's consistently an above average show for us. Not usually earth shattering numbers here but its been a very reliable show for sales and how many shows can you say that about lately?
Treatment here is top notch, it's a show for artists put on by artists so they really know what you go through to get here and are genuinely interested in helping when they can. One quick note here, if you are not a real artist, (buy/sellers) and try to pass yourself off as one here, be prepared to be shown the door. The last few years here we have seen several vendors packing up after being asked to leave for trying to bend the rules. Like I said, by artists, for artists!
The weather was perfect this year and we had our best year ever for sales. This is a three day show and we even sold one of our large pieces on Friday, that hardly ever happens! We ended up selling five pieces with an average sale of just over $3,000.00 each. After our disappointing start to the year, this show really helped us out a lot.
I spoke with two painters that both reported slightly above average sales. One wood worker had an above average show. A clay artist told us he had a slightly below average show and two photographers had differing results, one had a better than average weekend and the other reported below average sales. A jeweler also reported slightly above average sales.
All gave high marks to quality of art and treatment of the artist at the show and all said they planned to apply again next year.
I know this sounds like one of those rosy reviews where I'm trying to suck up to the people that put this show on but really, these people have been putting this show on for the past 56 years and they really do a good job in all aspects of running a show. If no one was selling artwork here and things were not so well organized I would definitely say so and have done so before. This is one of the shows we will come back to Florida to do after we have moved out of state.
